What Are Facebook Reviews?
Facebook Reviews (now integrated into Facebook Recommendations) are user-generated feedback left by customers on a business’s Facebook Page. They allow users to rate their experiences—typically with a 1 to 5 star rating (before 2018), or a “Yes/No” recommendation system now—and leave comments explaining their opinions.
These reviews appear publicly on the business’s Facebook page and can influence how potential customers perceive the brand. Positive reviews build trust, credibility, and social proof, while negative ones can hurt a brand’s reputation if not addressed properly.
Key Features of Facebook Reviews/Recommendations:
- Users can recommend a business by clicking “Yes” or “No.”
- Customers can leave detailed comments about their experience.
- Photos can be added to reviews for more context.
- Reviews are visible to anyone visiting the Page.
- Businesses can respond publicly to reviews.
Why Facebook Reviews Matter:
- Improve local SEO and visibility.
- Build credibility with new customers.
- Offer direct customer feedback.
- Allow businesses to resolve issues and show responsiveness.
Types Of Facebook Reviews
Facebook Reviews generally fall into two main categories: positive reviews and negative reviews. Each type plays a crucial role in shaping a business’s online presence and reputation. Positive reviews help build credibility and trust by highlighting customer satisfaction, while negative reviews, although often seen as damaging, can provide valuable insights and opportunities for improvement if handled professionally.
Positive Reviews
These reviews come from satisfied customers who recommend the business and often praise specific aspects such as excellent service, quality products, friendly staff, or a great overall experience. They usually include enthusiastic language, high engagement (likes or comments), and sometimes photos showcasing the product or service. Positive reviews help boost brand image, attract new customers, and improve the business’s visibility on Facebook.
Negative Reviews
Negative reviews are left by customers who had an unsatisfactory experience and choose not to recommend the business. These reviews may point out issues like poor customer service, delays, defective products, or unfulfilled expectations. While they can impact reputation, they also offer a chance for businesses to respond professionally, resolve the issue, and demonstrate accountability—turning a potentially harmful review into a display of customer care.

On Timeline
To see reviews you’ve posted to different businesses:
- Open Facebook and go to your profile.
- Click on the “More” option and select “Review given”.
- Here you can see the list of my Reviews given on pages.
Tip: You can also use the search bar at the top of your Activity Log to type “recommendation” or the name of the business.

Tips To Increase Reviews
Getting more reviews on Facebook is key to building a strong online reputation. Whether you’re managing a personal profile-based service or a business Page, encouraging people to leave honest feedback can help you grow trust and visibility. Here’s how to invite friends and followers to leave reviews:
On Profile (how to invite friends for review)
If you use your Facebook Profile to promote services (e.g., tutoring, baking, tailoring), here are ways to invite friends to review your work:
- Post a Review Request on Your Timeline
Write a casual, friendly post like:
“If you’ve worked with me or used my services, I’d really appreciate it if you could drop a quick recommendation on my profile. Your feedback helps me grow!” - Send Direct Messages
Reach out politely via Messenger to satisfied customers/friends:
“Hey [Name], I’m trying to grow my online presence—would you mind leaving a quick recommendation on my profile about your experience?” - Use Stories or Reels
Share a Story or short video showing your work and include a call-to-action like:
“Tried my service? Tap my profile and drop a review—it only takes a minute!” - Tag Clients in Posts
When sharing a finished project or success story, tag the client and encourage them to leave a review in the comments or on your profile.
On Page (how to invite friends for review)
To increase reviews on your official Facebook Page, try these tactics:
- Use the “Invite to Review” Button
Facebook allows you to invite people who have interacted with your Page (liked, commented, or messaged) to leave a review. Go to your Page’s Reviews/Recommendations section. Find users who left comments or messages. Click “Invite to Review” if the option appears. - Create a Review Request Post
Post something like:
“We’d love to hear from you! If you’ve visited us or used our services, please leave a recommendation on our Page. Your feedback helps us improve and grow!”
Include a direct link to the Reviews tab:
facebook.com/YourPageUsername/reviews - Send Personalized Messages
For past customers:
“Hi [Name], thanks again for visiting us! We’d be so grateful if you could leave a quick review on our Facebook page to let others know about your experience.” - Use QR Codes or Review Cards
If you have a physical location, print a QR code that links directly to your reviews page and display it at checkout or reception. - Incentivize (Without Violating Policy)
While you can’t buy reviews, you can encourage them ethically:
“Leave us a review and be entered in our monthly thank-you draw!”
Remove Negative Reviews
Facebook does not allow businesses or users to delete individual reviews left by others. However, there are several ways to manage or reduce the visibility and impact of negative reviews on your Facebook Page:
Report the Review to Facebook (If It Violates Policies)
If a review contains hate speech, spam, false information, or violates Facebook’s Community Standards, you can report it.
Steps:
- Go to the review you want to report. Click the three dots (•••) next to the review. Select “Find support or report recommendation.”
- Choose the reason (e.g., harassment, spam, misleading info) and submit.
Facebook will review your report and remove the review only if it violates its policies.
Respond Professionally to the Review
If the review is honest but negative, a professional response can minimize damage and even win back the customer.
Example:
“We’re sorry to hear about your experience, [Name]. Please message us directly so we can make this right for you. We appreciate your feedback and are always looking to improve.”
This shows others that you care and handle issues responsibly.
Bury Negativity with Positive Feedback
Encourage happy customers to leave more reviews. The more positive feedback you gather, the less visible and impactful a few negative reviews will be.
How to Review Someone Profile or Page
Whether you’re showing appreciation for a service, product, or experience, Facebook makes it easy to leave a review (recommendation) for both Profiles (used for business or freelance work) and Pages (official business accounts). Here’s how:
To Review a Facebook Business Page:
- Use the search bar to find the official Page of the business. It’s usually listed in the menu under the cover photo. Facebook will ask: “Do you recommend [Business Name]?”Yes or no.
- Write about your experience, mention staff, services, or products you liked/disliked, and add photos if you’d like. Once submitted, your recommendation will be visible to the Page and others.
Conclusion
Facebook Reviews (now called Recommendations) remain a powerful tool in 2025 for building trust, engaging with customers, and improving online visibility. Whether you’re a freelancer using your personal profile or a business managing a professional page, encouraging honest feedback can significantly boost your reputation. While you can’t delete negative reviews directly, responding with professionalism and encouraging positive ones can help maintain a balanced image. By understanding how to view, invite, manage, and leave reviews, you can make the most of this feature to grow your presence and connect more meaningfully with your audience.
